Italy - the pre-season

 

In 48 hours, we’ll be at the airport awaiting our flight to Florence, Italy. 7 people are in the group going: Dawn & Myself, Butch & Mary Beth, Jerry & Frazier, & Larry.

Itinerary:
Wednesday April 6 - Depart Houston to Paris, change planes, fly to Florence, Italy
Thursday, April 7, 11am-ish - Arrive Florence.
Monday, April 11 - Train ride from Florence to Rome.
Saturday, April 16 - Depart Rome and get back in Houston.

We plan on renting a car on Saturday the 9th and driving out to Sienna and Chianti country (San Gemignano and such).

The Florence section should go on without a hitch, but I am a little worried on the Rome side, with the death of the Pope the city has received a flood of visitors and the estimate is 4 million will bethere around his funeral.
Luckily his funeral is Friday the 8th, so we’ll arrive there after that and will depart before the conclave (selection of the next Pope) is set to begin, so maybe the place will empty out a bit.
